Aberdeen Proving Ground
(June 2003)

Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) is home to a diverse array of laboratories and centers that spearhead military research and development, test and evaluation, science and engineering, and today, collaborates routinely with industry and academia on both military and commercial projects. APG has one of the highest concentrations of DoD science and technology capabilities in the world. The capabilities cover an extensive range of technology, in applications from basic research, through development, testing and analysis, to operational applications. In addition to the principal mission of national defense, these vital applications support a broad range of applications in public health, safety, emergency preparedness, arms control, technological development and testing.

Major APG technology tenants include: · U.S. Army Research Laboratory · U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventative Medicine · U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center · U.S. Army Developmental Test Command · U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense

The "dual-use" of APG resources for commercial or otherwise non-military purposes is possible through the Federal Technology Transfer Act of 1986. Public-private collaborations under this and other laws help to reduce the cost of maintaining federal laboratory capabilities to the benefit of all citizens, while enhancing U.S. business competitiveness in the marketplace. · Companies can pay to have products tested by a Government facility (provided that there is no undue competition with the private sector). · Companies can license patented inventions and pending patent applications from the Government. · Companies can form a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with a Government laboratory to develop a product or service.

For more information, contact Susan Lemmon at the APG Business Development Office 410-273-5062 or visit our website, https://stb.apg.army.mil/BDO.
