Rules

Before you can win, you have to know the rules of the game.

Who's Eligible to Participate?
There's a place for everyone in Mosh Pit . . . From students who have a business plan idea and a dream of launching his or her own business to those who may not have a business idea, but simply wants to participate, network and at some point down the road, be part of an entrepreneurial team.

Any full or part-time undergraduate students enrolled in a Maryland college university or college are eligible to participate.

**Note: businesses and/or ideas that are not original student ideas, are technology transfer or are currently generating revenue are not eligible to participate in MoshPit. **

The Pit - Registering your Idea
Entrepreneurs/Teams interested in participating in MoshPit, must submit a brief description of their idea by Tuesday, February 26th at 5:00pm. Only 40 teams, who have been pre-approved and notified, will be eligible to present (90 second pitch) at The Pit on March 26th. Teams that fail to register their idea cannot present at The Pit and therefore will not be eligible for the competition. The purpose of your 90 second pitch is to encourage others (eg. students and advisors) to join YOUR team - why your idea is the best.

Building a Team
Each team must consist of 3-7 students and 1-3 "Advisors". Team may come to The Pit 'pre-formed' (already have 3-7 students), but they must still recruit their 1-3 advisors. We strongly encourage teams to build a strong and diversified team to include students from various majors/backgrounds (eg. business, finance, tech, etc.). The Advisors, provided by the GBTC, are some of Maryland's top tech entrepreneurs and business professionals. They play a critical role - providing advice, coaching and sometimes asking the 'tough' questions - and will help you improve your business plans. Teams will be finalized at the end of The Pit. Note: students and advisors may only participate on one team. Once you submit your team at The Pit, your team is set. You cannot add/remove students from your team.

Business Plans
Business plans are due by April 9th at 5:00pm to melaniek@gbtechcouncil.org and should be no more than 5 pages in length. The plans should be pre-revenue (Note: companies generating revenue are not eligible to participate in MoshPit). Your business plans (eg. ideas) do not need to be technology based, they must employ technology as a significant part of the company's service, product, implementation, delivery or sales.

Finals
The Selection Committee, comprised of MoshPit Sponsors will meet on Monday, April 14th to review and judge all eligible business plans. Up to seven (7) teams will be selected for the Finals. Finalists to be notified on Tuesday, April 15th. At the Finals, teams will have five (5) minutes to present their plans to the panel of judges and ten (10) minutes for questions. Each judge will have $5 million MoshPit! dollars to invest in any combination of teams. The teams that garner the most investment dollars, win cash prizes.
