What is MoshPit?
Created by the Greater Baltimore Technology Council (GBTC), MoshPit is a business plan competition open to any full or part-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a university or college in Maryland. It provides an opportunity for students to experience every aspect of starting a business. Student participants learn how to form a qualified team and write a competitive and realistic 2-5 page business plan. A selection committee will review all the plans and select up to seven (7) teams to participate in the Finals. At the Finals, teams present to a panel of judges and the teams that secure the most MoshPit investment dollars, win. Top

Why MoshPit?
MoshPit was created to encourage entrepreneurship. Students will also gain the practical and real world experience that looks great on a resume. And along the way, you'll make connections to the business community. Top

Who is eligible to compete in MoshPit?
MoshPit is open to any full or part-time undergraduate student enrolled in a university or college in Maryland. **Note: businesses and/or ideas currently generating revenue are not eligible to participate in MoshPit** Top

How do I build my team?
At The Pit, student entrepreneurs will have 1-2 minutes at the mic to present their idea and get others (students and advisors) interested in joining your team. Top

What if we already have 3 students on our team, do we still need to recruit additional students?
No, but we strongly encourage teams to be diversified (eg. business, finance, tech, etc.). The more diversified your team, the better your business plan. And remember, you must still recruit 1-3 advisors. Top

Can students participate on more than one team?
No. Top

What are you looking for in the business plan?
The GBTC provides the template for your business plan and it essentially covers six (6) core areas: 1) Opportunity/Market Problem, 2) Solution/Value Proposition, 3) Marketplace & Competition, 4) Marketing, Sales & Growth Strategy, 5) Compelling Investment Opportunity and 6) Financial Projections. Top

Any restrictions or requirements for the business plans?
Businesses do not need to be technology based, but must employ technology as a significant part of the company's service, product, implementation, delivery or sales.
Top

Is my business plan (or intellectual property) protected?
Yes, business plans shall be treated as confidential material of the students. We will not distribute any copies of the submitted business plans except for the purpose of judging. Top

Are we expected to launch our ideas into a 'real' business after MoshPit?
No. MoshPit is a perfect forum to bring your 'rough' ideas, and get some brain power from other students and advisors to help refine your idea. And while we don't expect students to launch their businesses the day after MoshPit, you never know what could happen down the road. Top

What happens at the Finals?
The teams that advance to the Finals will have 10 minutes to formally present their business plan and answer questions from a panel of judges. Each judge has $5 million MoshPit dollars to invest in any combination of teams. After the presentations, the judges will make their investment decisions. Teams that secure the most investment dollars, win. Top
