Judging Criteria

Business plans submitted by students are judged on seven main areas:

Opportunity/Market Problem
Is the market opportunity clearly defined? Are you convinced that this market opportunity exists?

Solution/Value Proposition
Have the students clearly demonstrated how their product/service solves the market need? Did they define their competitive advantage(s)? Is it unique? Is technology playing a role in their product/service? Are you convinced that they not only have a viable solution, but that they can deliver on the value proposition?

Marketplace & Competition
Have the teams clearly outlined their target market? Is potential market size and growth rate identified? Did they identify their competition - direct and indirect? Did they tell you how they're going to beat the competition? Do you feel comfortable that they know their market?

Marketing, Sales & Growth Strategy
Did they identify the sales channel(s)? Are they clear on how they're going to get the customer to say yes? Have they clearly explained the revenue model? Can they make money using this strategy?

Compelling Investment Opportunity
Have they identified the top 5 reasons why an investor would consider investing in this company? Are you compelled to invest in this company?

Financial Projections
Is the revenue growth realistic? Do the gross margins seem reasonable?

Use of Funds
How do the teams plan to use the cash prize for their business and/or professional development?

Note: only those business plans that are based on a student's original idea vs. those from faculty and/or those associated with a technology transfer office will be accepted for the MoshPit! competition.
