GBTC SUCCESS STORIES
Stephen Muirhead
I have been part of the GBTC CEO roundtable for about four years and it is the most useful and supportive organization that I have ever joined. Every month I am struck by how bright my group really is, and for the first time in my life, I have a business relationship where I feel I can share the kind of problems we all have in business, and get help, support and guidance. Worth every penny.
Tim Askew, President
CSA Medical
My participation in the GBTC Biotechnology Executive Roundtable has not only expanded my network of thought leaders and successful business executives and entrepreneurs, its members have acted as a collective brain trust helping me analyze and solve very important issues affecting to our rapid growth. In fact, several of our key employees have come through my relationships with other Bio-executives at the GBTC. Establishing and nurturing these trusted connections are essential for any business leader who is serious about growing their company in the region. I can’t imagine NOT being involved in the GBTC.
Yair Flicker, President
SmartLogic Solutions
GBTC's press leads alone have gotten our company onto two front-page BBJ articles in addition to landing us an interview that aired on WBAL TV. As if this wasn't enough, GBTC's own staff members have gone out of their way to introduce me and my company to local community members. Perhaps most importantly, GBTC "keeps good company" – take one look at their membership roster and you'll see that it's full of people in our region that are at the forefront of technology and innovation.
Paul Silber, Principal
Silber Associates
I've never enjoyed being a member of the GBTC as much as right now, specifically in my role as Chair of the GBTC Biotech Roundtable. Working with this roundtable has enabled me to maintain and develop new and important connections to my bioscience peers in the region, especially following my departure from my former company (In Vitro Technologies) just over a year ago. And the roundtable itself has become such a dynamic forum to exchange ideas and network that most participants stick around following the end of our 2-hour meeting to discuss ideas and opportunities.
Michael Teitelbaum
For over ten years, I've benefited from networking and the advice provided by other members of the Greater Baltimore Technology Council. There is a real sense of community among the membership. Most recently, I have become involved in a business roundtable that is made up of executive leaders from companies with significant growth goals. The discussions we have and the challenges we resolve are nothing short of amazing. While there are many other benefits I derive from GBTC, this group alone more than pays for the price of admission.
Mike Tumbarello, Vice President, Corporate Marketing, Planning and Research
RWD Technologies
As the saying goes, membership has its rewards. RWD continues as a proud member of the GBTC for a number of reasons, including the following:
• Corporate citizenship – RWD takes great pride in being a good corporate citizen, and by supporting GBTC we support a vibrant, growing Baltimore tech community of which RWD has been a member for over 20 years;
• Networking – RWD and its people cannot work in a vacuum, and interacting with some of the areas premier companies, and their employees, provides our team opportunities to meet and interact with some of the best;
• Knowledge – RWD is a learning organization, and our leadership team realizes significant benefits from participating in a number of GBTC’s events and forums. From Technite to the GBTC CEO and Marketing Councils, we are constantly interacting with and learning from our peers;
• Business opportunities – Being comprised of a who’s who of greater Baltimore’s tech community, RWD is continually exposed to opportunities on a number of levels.
The bottom line is membership in GBTC makes great sense for RWD and any organization that seeks to grow and thrive along with the Baltimore tech community GBTC so ably supports.
Hillel Glazer, Principal & CEO
Entinex, Inc.
“We're members of the GBTC because we owe, in a very fundamental way, our success to GBTC. The GBTC was both, an incubator and a proving ground for us, a place where we could sound-board, test, and deploy ideas all in the safety of a community that wants us to succeed. The GBTC created the atmosphere where a die-hard engineer could come out of his shell, meet the right people, get the right advice, learn marketing, learn selling, and create a top-shelf, industry-leading business. GBTC is a model organization other regions would be lucky to follow.”
Will Davis
Right Source Marketing
I don’t know where my business would be without the people and programs of the GBTC. Some of the best collaboration I’ve had comes from the Marketing Executive Roundtable and some of my best clients and trusted partners from the TechNet Leads groups, Wine Tastings, Golf Outing, Happy Hours and so much more. Just in the past month the Marketing Roundtable helped me to think through a major problem that was keeping my business from moving forward. The GBTC has truly helped me to “Connect” -- with clients, partners, prospects and advisors.
Greg Abel, President
Abel Communications
After launching a techonology-focused PR firm in 2005, I got started with GBTC by going to several “Meet the Members” and a wine tasting event. Pretty soon, I was hooked. It became clear very quickly that joining GBTC would be a great way to network and learn. The best part so far has been the access to so many accomplished and intelligent business leaders. Obviously the networking is great, but what I didn’t expect – and have truly enjoyed – is the ability to share challenges and work on creative solutions for my business and my clients.
Joe Gorman
DP Solutions
DP Solutions membership with GBTC has proven to be a huge asset, enabling us to build strong alliances and relationships with other local businesses. We met Heather Lunn of Airband at the GBTC Meet the Members Power Networking event in 2007. After discovering that Airband’s wireless solutions complemented several of DP Solutions’ own offerings, a solid, prosperous partnership was formed. Providing more expansive offerings and turnkey solutions at competitive prices enables DP Solutions to appeal to a larger customer base. We now have two customers with multi-year contracts and an ever-expanding pipeline.
Joni Daniels

The GBTC is one of the best and most efficient ‘on-ramps’ to developing professional relationships among the vast array of technology-based firms in the region. The entire staff has proven themselves as an invaluable resource for making sure I get the most out of my membership investment. A member of my GBTechNet group connected me with a key decision maker resulting in an opportunity that has increased my visibility, my client list, and my professional network within the first six months of attending meetings.
John Hill, Vice President, IT Solutions
G.1440
As a result of being a member of the GBTC I experienced a textbook example in 2008 of just how the internet and interactive technology are to be reckoned with for ALL businesses and industries.
I attended the “Meet the Members” event, featuring the topic of “Social Media,” in the spring. Prior to that event I have to admit that I had not realized the incredible impact that the social networking engines have on identifying, developing and engaging customers in the process of conducting business together—or better yet—earning the right to do business together.
A GBTC member at that event communicated that her company had engaged a Social Media Consultant (located in Phoenix, AZ) to lead a Webinar on that subject, she recommended the consultant to me, I contracted with the consultant (after all the referral was trustworthy), and now G.1440 is using social networking proactively—on a daily basis—to drive business and help engage new clients.
Kevin Lynch of First Mariner
Senior Vice President, eCommerce
One of the best connections we've made through the GBTC has been R2integrated, our web design partner. Through the merging of Round2 and bi4ce, they have become our "go to" source for web marketing and technology development and support. We could not have made the great strides we've achieved on the web without them. This partnership represents the great value we've received from our membership in the GBTC
John Eckenrode, President
CPSI
Without the GBTC “power of connections” – we (the MCSA) would not have been connected to Abba Poliakoff who connected us to what some consider the best lobbyist team in Annapolis – Bob Enten and Tim Perry. Without Enten and Perry, I’m not convinced we’d have gotten the sales tax repealed!
Art Jacoby, Principal
Jacoby
The GBTC is mission central for technology in Maryland and as a technology company business advisor it’s the place to be. I’ve met numerous entrepreneurs and many capable colleagues with specialized expertise to help me drive growth for high potential technology companies. As the world flattens and shrinks, it’s great to know that GBTC members will be playing a role in making the world safer, more productive and more enjoyable.
Tom Loveland, Chairman
Mind Over Machines, Inc.
Face2Face is ALWAYS AWESOME! The networking is great, high quality. The speakers always inspire me and I always walk away with a few new pearls of wisdom and insight. I would attend every one of these if it fit my schedule and you'd let me.
Randy Hayes
Tidal Technologies
Tidal Technologies Corporation, a staffing and recruiting company, joined the GBTC over two years ago. Our goal was to expand our presence, establish new relationships, and to actively participate in the technology community. We recently joined the G5 networking group which has led to many new relationships including a partnership with Shirlee Nuffer of One Communications. With this new affiliation, Tidal identified those customers that had unfavorable engagements with service providers. Tidal Technologies has helped our customer base while One Communications has gained new clients and business relationships. We hope to expand our presence in the GBTC community and look forward to future partnerships.
Roberto Allen
Alba Therapeutics
Two years ago, I was looking to make a career change. Jody Stoehr of R2integrated, whom I’ve known professionally for about 8 years now, invited me to a GBTC Meet the Members breakfast, with a focus on biotech. I was a bit reluctant, since I didn’t know too much about biotech at the time. With Jody’s encouragement, I went. She introduced me to a number of people that turned into great leads for me. Among the people she introduced me to was Blake Paterson, who at the time was CEO of Alba Therapeutics. Based on that meeting, I ended up coming to work as in house counsel at Alba, where I have now been happily employed for over two years. Jody and I share the same philosophy about networking: “It’s not what I get out of it…it’s about putting two people together for their mutual benefit.”
Jared Goralnick, President
SET Consulting, LLC
From the GBTC I've developed countless business relationships and found dozens of partners and clients. The GBTechNet group alone has allowed me to work with some of the most talented and creative individuals in the region. I've been a member of the GBTechNet (and the GBTC) for four years and am happy to drive 40 minutes for an 8 a.m. meeting twice a month.
Don Grauel, President
L.E. Goldsborough & Son, Inc
There is simply no better way to keep your finger on the pulse of technology-based businesses in Maryland than to be regularly involved with the membership of the GBTC. Generalities aside, I can directly attribute an account we won solely because two GBTC members gave unsolicited endorsements when approached by my prospect. My client confirmed that is what sealed the deal.
